Use of AI.

We are open about where automated tools are and are not used at The Debate.

What tools do

Software helps us assemble each day's edition: monitoring European reporting, sorting articles into sections, filtering out thin items, and generating the short standfirst summaries you see on index pages. The articles themselves carry the reporting journalist's own words.

What people do

Editorial judgement — what leads the edition, what we publish, how corrections are handled and how rights requests are answered — rests with the editorial desk, not with automated systems.

What we do not do

We do not publish AI-generated "articles" dressed up as reporting, and we do not fabricate quotes, sources, images or bylines. Original The Debate pieces marked with the THE DEBATE tag are written by people.
