Ownership & funding.

Trust in journalism depends on knowing who pays for it. Here is how The Debate is funded and how that funding is kept away from editorial decisions.

Independence

The Debate is independently operated and editorially self-governing. No political party, government or advertiser has any control over what we publish or how we frame it.

How we are funded

We carry no display advertising and publish no sponsored or "native" content. Our running costs are met through the operator's own resources and optional reader support. Because our revenue does not come from advertisers, our only incentive is to be worth reading.

The digest

We republish reporting from independent European journalists under their own bylines. We remove or amend any item at a rights-holder's request. We do not sell coverage, placement or links.

Registered office

The Debate is operated from Grand Centar, Hektorovićeva, Matrix Office Park, Zagreb, Croatia. View on OpenStreetMap →

Conflicts of interest

Where a story touches an organisation connected to The Debate, we disclose it in the piece. Questions about funding: editor@thedebate.eu.
